Sir Ludwig Guttmann turned 80 years old in 1979. In recognition of his work in disability sport, the Canadian team at the Stoke Mandeville International Games that year presented him with this cap featuring two red maple leaves on a white background, ‘1979 Stoke Mandeville’ text in blue and ‘Sir Ludwig’ text in black. A member of the Canadian team was Robert D. Steadward who later became the first president of the International Paralympics Committee when it was founded in 1989.
