Inspired by the Hayao Miyazaki animated film Porco Rosso, and by this exceptional aircraft, the CANT Z.506 Airone, I tried to reproduce this plane as faithfully as possible. What I like about this project is the ambiance of Southern Europe between the two World Wars. This pivotal time, when seaplane discovery and exploration were at their peak. Capturing that feeling, which is included in Porco Rosso, where building, testing, and modifying a plane (or seaplane) was not so “complicated” at the time; where the relationship between mechanic, pilot, and small builders was inseparable. No electronics, no HUD, just simple instruments, a compass, an oil gauge, a fuel gauge, engine temperature feedback, all sorts of cranks… a yoke, a map, and… you. The materials were simple. Wood and fabric for the major part of the plane, a bit of steel or duralumin plating for the floats, and a lot of elbow grease and experimentation.
This work is always updating, I could improve it when I have the time.
