More model informationScience journalist George van Hal from the ‘De Volkskrant’ newspaper wondered whether his meteorites were real or not. One of them was this Canyon Diablo, an iron meteorite that is linked to the ‘Meteor Crater’ in Arizona. In the materials science lab of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft, a piece of the iron meteorite was sawed off and polished. Then the metal surface of about 3x2 cm was etched with a special acid (nital) to make the Widmanstätten visible. This is a pattern unique to many iron meteorites. The results of the various tests were published in a nice in-depth science article in the ‘De Volkskrant’ newspaper. This model was used for an online version of the article.
