These neolithic objects are anywhere from 2,000 to 5,200 years old, and their ultimate purpose and function is shrouded in mystery. Over 500 of these stone balls have been found, mostly in Scotland but with some exceptions in England and Ireland. These CSBS seem to have been made in the north-east region of Scotland, as most of these objects have been found in Aberdeenshire or in Orkney.
The purpose of CSBs are uncertain. They have been considered to be weapons that could have been thrown, but this theory has fallen out over time. Mathematicians have had many interpretations about CSBs. Some have imagined that the CSBs might have been used as measurements, but the objects have different measurements across the board so this was proven false.
