There are three sets of dragon columns at the Lugang Longshan Temple. The style—muscular but modest—belongs to the early Ch’ing Dynasty. In Chinese folklore and mythology, the dragon was a creature of great power, with dominion over water and weather, and, for the worthy person, symbolic of strength and luck—it was also the official symbol of the Imperial state.
