Historic graffiti at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument in St. Augustine, Florida often contains dates, names, and regiment information for enlisted persons from the fort’s past. This casement room has a number of areas of enlisted graffiti, including this spot near the doorway between the Casement 15 and Casement 14 passage. In this example, note the word Mis for Mississippi- likely where the person’s regiment is from, and an 1888 date with “Woodbury” as a possible surname.
