The Castle is located in Orsara in the Province of Alessandria and represents a magnificent example of a historic fortified residence with an adjoining agricultural company. Approximately ten hectares of splendid, completely replanted vineyards, the majority of which are Dolcetto, which, as they degrade, extend to the foot of the ancient Castle. The place of Orsara where the Castle is located are remembered for the first time in a document dated 1196. In ancient times the feudal lords, the Marquises Malaspina, are remembered in a song of “Purgatory” in Dante’s Divine Comedy Alighieri; the Poet thanks them for the hospitality received during one of his visits. Following the marriage of Violante Malaspina, the lands and Castle then passed into the ownership of the Lodrone Counts who lived there until 1530. The Castle has been the property of the Remondini family of Genoa since the beginning of the 20th century, who carried out a renovation together with that of the Oratory dating back to the year 1000.
