Trench 2 was dug across a hollow and earth mound at the centre of the scheduled ancient monument at Castle Hill, Beaumont Leys near Leicester. The monument is thought to be a manorial complex associated with the Knights Hospitallers between c.1240 and 1484. It has never, previosuly, been excavated. Work was carried out as a community archaeological dig, as part of Leicester City Council’s Story of Parks project.
