This is the exercise for the “Mesh Modeling Fundamentals” module of the “Introduction to Blender” flow at CG Cookie. I tried to push the envelope here by going beyond what was requested but following the rules which were to only use cubes, spheres and cones to create three 3D models. Castle Kube is entirely done using cubes. Robot Conny, cones. And Zun & Klouds, UV spheres.
Tools used for building these models include Loop Cut & Slide, Inset, Extrude, and Knife. Total time: 10 hours.
Before I created them, I built two simpler 3D models, variations of a twisted column made of cubes. Then, I designed the three models (shown here) in paper, and finally had a blast facing the challenge of creating something fun, as best as I can.
Note: Yes, I have previous experience in 3D, built simple stuff using Second Life.
