Built in the late 13th century, this fortress protected the Hron Valley’s mining towns and trade routes. Its structure follows the cliff’s terrain, centering on a residential tower and later Renaissance palace wings. Once a vital border defense site, its decline began in the late 17th century after being damaged by Kuruc troops. After losing its strategic function, the castle fell into ruin. Today, the remains of the keep and palace offer spectacular panoramas over the river valley. Dedicated volunteers now work on the preservation of the walls, ensuring this medieval landmark remains a popular destination for hikers.
