More model informationSandstone is a sedimentary rock and, as the name implies, composed of sand grains held together with a cementing material. Catahoula Sandstone has off-white to light-brown sand grains with interspersed black and brown grains and, most telling, a thin white cortex formed on weathered surfaces; Catahoula Quartzite is a more highly cemented form of the sandstone. Grinding stones and whetstones are the most common uses for this material, but archaeologists find saws, atlatl weights, celts, and adzes as well.
