More model informationThe cathedra (bishop’s throne) of Rochester Cathedral. Designed by Sir Gilbert Scott circa 1875. Donated by Lord Dudley, brother-in-law to Bishop Claughton, replacing a previous cathedra designed by L.N. Cottingham in 1840, donated to St Albans and subsequently missing. In a gothic style with a canopy and trefoil arched sides, the lower portions featuring grape and vine leaves. Cluster column supports resting on seated lions and crocketted pointed arches topped by foliate finials. The arms of some bishops were painted on the back by E. S. Watkins in 1910.
