Cavan Burren CB29

Cavan Burren CB29 sits on an enhanced small rock outcrop on a slope giving it an outstanding appearance. Its position on the edge is made all the more spectacular by the small piece of remnant bedrock that it sits upon - this is termed a ‘perched prop’. . It can be shown that the piece of bedrock ‘prop’ is the remains of the original pedestal which was cut away. The boulder has been repositioned into this prominent position leaving part of the original bedrock exposed at the back. The boulder has been shaped by the removal of several sides and a number of chunks.

CB29 was featured in ‘Time and Mind’ as an Irish example of a propped stone, (Shepherd 2013, 282).
