More model informationThe 290 ft steel package freighter Cayuga was built in 1889 in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1895 it sank in a collision with the Joseph L. Hurd in the fog between Beaver Island and Skillagalee Light. One crew of the Hurd died in the accident. Salvage diver legend James Reid attempted to salvage the Cayuga and nearly died in the attempt. The four giant salvage pontoons and salvage barge lie on site with the Cayuga. Today it is a popular dive site in the Straits of Mackinac Shipwreck Preserve. It is a large site and the model was created from 5,541 30 and 50 megapixel images shot by Brian Bosveld, Andrew Goodman, and Ken Merryman photographed on three 30 minute DPV dives.
