More model information

This broken, highly-crazed yellow-brown painted, glazed ceramic, comes from the Moseley Homestead collections and was recovered from a trash dump on site. The piece is a early 20th Century imperial yellow pottery foo dog, unmarked. Foo dogs represent totems of protection and prosperity and are also known as Temple Guard dogs, Shi Shi Lions, and Temple Lions. This ceramic likely would have been part of a pair (representing Yin and Yang), and possibly originate from Hal Moseley’s tour of duty in the WWI era US Navy that included ports of call in Asia.
