Chapel Door (WM024-005002-), Ballymore3D ModelNoAI
Small chapel (8.4m x 5.85m; T 0.65m) of 17th/18th century standing in the south-east quadrant of Ballymore graveyard (WM024-005001-), Co. Westmeath. This graveyard was enclosed by an 18th/19th-century stone wall built by the Magan family of Umma More & Togherstown. A large memorial stone dedicated to the Magan lies on the ground adjacent to the south-west corner of the chapel. It has been suggested that the niche over the doorway contained the Magan family armorial plaque & that this family may have been responsible for its construction as a mortuary chapel. The building is entered through a pointed doorway. This doorway was possibly taken from elsewhere & reused here. The chapel was lit by a triple light flat-headed unglazed window with external hood-moulding located in the centre of the east gable. The flat-headed window possibly reused here appears to be 17th-century in date & the doorway dates from the 15/16th-century. The 19th-century C of I church stands on the site of the medieval parish church.
