Charred malt remains (beer?) | Verkohlte Malzreste (Bier?)

Neolithic | Neolithikum

Wetland settlement | Feuchtbodensiedlung

3900 BC | v. Chr.

Excavations | Ausgrabung: department of wetland archaeology (LAD)

investigations | Untersuchungen : Dr. U. Maier (LAD), Priv. Doz. Dr. A. Heiss, University of Vienna.

3910 v. Chr. zerstörte ein Schadfeuer die Pfahlbausiedlung Hornstaad Hörnle am Bodensee. Dabei verkohl-ten ganze Hausinventare. Bei modernen naturwissenschaftlichen Untersuchungen stellte sich dieser seltsame Klumpen als Rest eines Malzgetränkes heraus – möglicherweise der älteste Nachweis für Bier?

In 3910 B.C. a fire destroyed the pile dwelling settlement Hornstaad Hörnle on Lake Constance. In the pro-cess, entire house inventories were charred. In modern scientific investigations, this strange lump turned out to be the remains of a malt beverage - possibly the oldest evidence of beer?
