More model informationThis Latin shape chasuble dates to the 19th century. It is made of red hand- textured taffeta with gold embroidery over card in a thistle and rose design overall. The cross orphrey on the back has a central emblem of the Dove Descending worked in heavily raised and padded gold and silver bullions, and surrounded by an aureole. The thistles in the design may indicate that it was made for a Scottish church. It was part of a magnificent Pontifical High Mass Set gifted to the museum by St Mary’s Cathedral, Huntly Street, Aberdeen in 2002.
