This projectile point was recovered archaeologically from the Native American rancheria, or neighborhood, at Mission Santa Clara. Classified as a Desert Side-Notched point, due to its physical form, it is similar to those used by Native people in the centuries immediately preceeding European colonization. That it was found at a Spanish mission site indicates that Indigenous people maintained certain aspects of their cultural traditions despite the pressures of the colonial period. Given its size, this artifact was probably used as an arrow point.
