More model informationThis specimen of chrysotile asbestos [Mg₃(Si₂O₅)(OH)₄] is from the disused Baryugil Asbestos Mine and was collected in the early 1980s. The asbestos deposit is part of the much larger Baryugil Serpentinite. The serprentinite itself is an eastern extension of the Peel-manning Fault System (‘Great Serpentinite Belt’) that has been folded around the Texas Orocline in norther New South Wales. The mine itself was operational from 1944 until closure in 1976.
