One of the most charming medieval churches in Gemer attracts attention from afar with its tall eastern brick gable and massive enclosing wall with roofed gates. The original church from the second half of the 13th century consisted of a single nave with a square chancel and an attached sacristy (a side room for priests). Later, a separate standing bell tower was added, a wooden folk log structure from the 18th century, and a ground-floor building of the former church school incorporated into the stone enclosure.
Frescoes dating from the 1370s to the 1380s cover the perimeter walls and vault of the chancel, including the inner wall of the triumphal arch.
A unique part of the church’s interior is the rare late-Gothic winged altar from 1508 with the central group of the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary and painted double-sided wings from the workshop of Master Paul of Levoča.
