More model informationThe 211 ft steel barge City of St. Joseph was built as the sidewheeler City of Chicago in 1890. It was lengthened twice and burned once before being cut down to a 254 ft lumber barge. It was being towed in tandem with barge Transport by Tug John Roen in a storm when it was cut loose off the Upper Keweenaw Peninsula. Both barges ran ashore and were total loses. One crew of the City of St. Joseph was killed in the stranding. Parts of the barges were salvaged from shore. Today both barges sit in 25 to 35 ft of water and are popular dive sites. The model was created from 2,876 30-megapixel images shot in the 2024 season.
