From the museum’s description: In 1901 Clara Zetkin - a friend of Rosa Luxemburg’s - was the editor of the Social Democratic women’s magazine “Die Gleichheit” (Equality) in Stuttgart. In 1907 she took over the running of the Women’s Office of the SPD. In 1910 she initiated International Women’s Day at the “Second International Socialist Women’s Conference” in Copenhagen. It is celebrated to this day on March 8th. The bust was probably made by one of the circle of artists associated with Zetkin’s husband, the artist Friedrich Zundel.
