Clay vase
Mamutowa Cave, Poland Archaeological Museum in Kraków
The fragments of the vase were discovered in 1958 during rescue excavations at site 1c in Mogiła (the area of the S. Żeromski Hospital); the vessel has been reconstructed. It was crafted on a potter’s wheel from well-sifted clay. The outer surface is smooth, polished; above the shoulder crease, there is an embellishment visible, limited by decorative strips, in the form of a zigzag and diagonal mesh, separated by three knobs. Similar decorations, typical of the Przeworsk culture, are found on the rim flange of this vessel.
