The Claybag is a Scottish one-handed sword. The name comes from Gaelic. claidheamh beag - “small sword”, in contrast to the claymore, which was a “big sword”. It differed from contemporary European swords only in the characteristic V-shaped crosspiece, the same as that of the claymore. Claybags were mainly used in the late 14th and early 15th centuries, although there were later examples, such as the image on the gravestone of Donald McGilsbig from Finnlagan dated to the middle of the 16th century.
