Description: This specimen reminds me of the book of Antoine de Saint-Exupery - Citadelle.
Galena is the primary ore mineral of lead, used since ancient times. Galena is one of the most abundant and widely distributed sulfide minerals. The Galena is known for its ‘mirror-metallic’ luster and for the stepped structure. This specimen shows well-developed cubic crystals in staggered growth with defined edges. The crystals have intense shiny-metallic luster - in my opinion, one of the most ‘problematic’ sample.
Cleavage fragments of Galena - are one of the most diagnostic properties of Galena is its ability to break by cleavage in three directions that intersect at right angles. This forms cleavage fragments that are cubic and rectangular in shape.
