Coalcutter Tooth

A tooth from a Welsh mechanised coal cutting machine used underground in a Welsh mine. The tooth is one small part from a massive circular drum of teeth that would cut into the coal seam deep underground, that miners nick-names the “widow-maker” because it was potentially so lethal. The object was scanned during museum primary school workshop at Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery as part of “Merthyr Black Gold” project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
