More model informationBeach cobbles were very handy tools. This one saw several different uses. One end shows pecked damage from pounding, probably in preparing food. The other end has two facets from using it at an angle as a pounder or grinder, again probably in food preparation. A dark stain and polish on one surface shows it was also used for preparing hides by rubbing oils or minerals into them to make them waterproof. Diameter 89mm. Found during excavations on an Iron Age settlement at Cill Donnain, South Uist, Scotland.
