Given the rather heavy, 50M-vertex base mesh, I experimented with both semi-automated and manual retopology. I eventually opted for a minimal quad setup of only 30 vertices, as it resolved hard edges better, offering substantially higher performance. Such a low polycount also called for some custom normal tweaking and texture deskewing.
Based on a March 2017 dataset of 19 x 12MP photos. 4K PBR textures.
