Species: Common snapping turtle(Chelydra serpentina)
Location of origin: Oklahoma, United States of America
Present in this portion of carapace are several vertibrae which, like in all turtles, are fused into the carapace (along with the connecting ribs) and lack the range of motion present in most other vertibrates. This tradeoff sacrafices maneuverability for protection and affords these animals with a portable bunker to hide themselves away in though, unlike other species of turtle, snapping turtles are unable to completely draw their massive heads into their shells. On the other hand, the massive head of the snapping turtle comes equipped with massive, powerful jaws that make up for the lack of protection.
The model was generated through photogrammetry from 148 photos in agisoft metashape.
