More model informationHornfels is produced via Contact Metamorphism: The metamorphism of a rock through contact with, or proximity to an igneous intrusion.
Hornfels is produced when a clay rich sedimentary rock (typically a shale or a mudstone), or a low grade metapelite, comes into contact with an igneous body. In this particular instance, the Ennogera Granite was intruded into the bunya phyllite (a rock produced through low grade regional metamorphism of a shale or siltstone), metamorphosing the phyllite into Hornfels at it’s peripheries.
