Fossil cone snail in the DISTAV palaeontology collection (University of Genova). Conus betulinoides is a species of predatory sea snail belonging to the family Conidae, commonly known as cone snails. Now found in the warm waters of the Indo-Pacific region, this species is notable for its strikingly patterned shell, which features a mix of creamy and darker hues. Like other cone snails, Conus betulinoides is venomous, using a specialized harpoon like tooth to capture prey, primarily small fish and marine invertebrates. Its unique adaptations and beautiful shell make it a subject of interest for both scientists and collectors alike. The 3D model derived from a specimen found in the Pliocene deposits of Genova (Liguria, Italy).
This model was realized by Glenda Cantale during the Universal Civil Service (SCU) at the Genoa University.
