Cope from Pontifical High Mass Vestment, Blairs

This cope forms part of a High Mass set that would be used on special occasions. The gold and silver embroidery is particularly outstanding in this example and has been worked over card to achieve a raised effect. The set was gifted to the museum by St Mary’s Cathedral, Aberdeen and dates from 1860 – 1870 which was the period when St Mary’s became the Cathedral. This object belongs to the Scottish Catholic Heritage Collections Trust, T8212aBLRBM
