Cork Coaster- Texture Test3D ModelNoAI
Today in the Digital Archaeology Lab we had our new student Sydney Weisbrod testing textures with LiDAR on small objects in the Trnio application. In this scan we focused on a cork coaster to see how well the LiDAR can pick up on the various colors and shapes within the surface texture. On many artifacts, like bone or ceramics, accurately capturing the subtle nuances within the textures in our scans can be curcial to studying them in the lab.
In regards to the shape of the coaster, it is almost a perfect circle with not obvious features that stand out. As a result, this presents the challange of maintaining a steady hand and tracking where one is at all times, without any noticeable artifact features that could be used to orient position. With other shapes we had previously worked with, there was an eaiser, methodical approach to how the scan can be done, because of more noticeable attributes on the objects. Here however, it was a challenge of capturing a continous shape.
