Portland Museum believes that this artifact is a cork float, it may have been used for fishing. Although it looks like it may have come from a life preserver, cork life jackets were not invented until nearly fifty years after the Earl Of Abergavenny sank.
It may, in fact, be an intrusive find that just happened to end up on the wreck site.
If anyone has any information about this, Portland Museum would be very pleased to hear from them.
