More model informationThe cornerstone of the 3rd mission Santa Clara site, where approximately 3500 Native Californians lived, labored, and were ultimately buried, was laid in 1781. Over the next 30 years, the Ohlone people, who are indigenous to Santa Clara Valley, constructed the mission grounds surrounding this cornerstone, until the mission site was mostly destroyed in an earthquake in 1818. Ohlone people likely also laid this cornerstone, but the Spanish failed to record most of their stories.
