Description: The pink color is caused by minor amounts of Cr(III) replacing Al(III) in the crystal structure. Depending on the Cr content, the color varies from pink to red. The pink Corundum variety is called pink Sapphire or pink Ruby, and on the other hand - the red variety, with higher Cr contents is called Ruby. These Cr-impurities are often responsible for causing a Ruby to fluorescent, which can be helpful in its identification.
