couch and dog scan with Scandy Pro on iPhone X 3D Model
This quick scan of bundy on his favorite sleeping spot is a test of our upcoming new scanning mode in Scandy Pro iOS without a fixed bounding box size. Be sure to check it out in Matcap to see the detail of the surface. The color changes across the surface are from auto exposure changes while scanning (after my second step i was facing a lamp. not good). This will be improved when we push this update within the next week or so.
This scanning mode will allow for capturing larger areas with higher resolutions. Most scanning applications use a bounding box volume that everything must fit within, but when increasing the bounding box size and keeping the same number of voxels in it, the resolution gets lower just like in a 2D image with pixels.
This type of scan also naturally results in larger models because there’s more data stored. Although this is good for higher detail, this is bad for low-poly use cases. In the event that you need lower poly model, we have the option to decimate a mesh within the app.
