This rare beast is found on the fringes of two worlds. A semiaquatic animal this drake skirts between shallow coastal waters and the nearby shore. This behemoth uses its large forearms to cling to underwater boulders to avoid being swept away by the buffeting waves, as well as to climb the tall cliffsides where it rests in caves. The barbels and lateral line crest on its head are so acute to their surroundings that this drake has lost a need for its eyes entirely. The Cove Drake is a patient hunter hunkering below the waves as it waits in ambush. The flap of skin under the Cove Drake’s throat is uses as an extended air sac allowing the hunter to stay submerged for over an hour before resurfacing. The primary food of this predator are sea lions but it’s not afraid of tackling larger prey such as elephant seals, manatees, or even other predators like coastal sharks. The Cove Drake doesn’t even need to outright kill its prey. One bite is usually enough for most animals to bleed out if not kill them outright.
