Prehistoric carving found on moorland, approx. 200 metres west of the Cow and Calf Hotel, on Rombalds Moor, West Yorkshire.
This small rock is often obscured by the surrounding vegetation and can be quite difficult to find. Referenced IAG312 in Boughey & Vickerman’s 2003 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding’ it’s noted as having 8 cups, some worn.
CSI: Rombalds Moor project subsequently recorded this stone ‘Cow and Calf 04’, describing:
‘…Seven indistinct very weathered cups and an eighth cup-like depression, possibly natural, form a rosette motif with one cup at centre…’
