This interesting and relatively well-preserved stone circle lies between Kenmore and Aberfeldy in Perthshire and is readily accesible from the roadside. The model came out well. It was made from 304 images, all taken from ground level and shows the configuration of the stone well.
The monument is a complex double circle that was used for over 100 years from 3000 BC. Excavation in 1965 showed that it was constructed in three phases. Firstly the monument consisted of a horseshoe arrangement of wooden posts set in a wide, shallow ditch. This was followed by a ring of 8 stones surrounded by a stoney kerb. Finally a ring of nine stones was made around the existing ring and two further outlying stones were placed to perhaps form an entrance. There’s a cup marked stone on the perimeter too.
One of the best such monuments in Perthshire and well worth a visit.
