Crossbow Stock Fragment 96-2137 Santa Clara 1564 3D Model
A fragment of crossbow stock at the area of the release mechanism. This portion of the wood stock is largely covered by an 11.9 centimeter long iron cheekplate, which would have strengthened the stock. It has two protruding pegs for the legs of the gaffle cocking mechanism to slide along. The rolling nut that held the cord in a cocked postion sits in the center of this piece, and it is held in place by two thick lead plates. The missing trigger would have entered the stock from behind the iron gaffle pegs.
