Woodland St, Strathmore is a wide main road that borders St. Vincent de Paul primary school. It’s width in conjunction with a sudden speed drop from 60 to 40 creates an environment that encourages drivers to speed and puts pedestrians, particularly children in danger when crossing the road. Dense on street parking also reduces vision and adds to this risk. This project aims to discourage driving and create a safer environment for pedestrians, that encourages more residents to walk and ride and contributing to an overall 20 Minute Neighbourhood. This is achieved by; creating an environment that appears pedestrian through the use of coloured road lines and garden beds, installing convex flower mirrors to increase vision when crossing and installing small speed bumps to slow and deter drivers in the area.
