CSS Virginia was an Ironclad built by the confederate states upon the underwater remains of USS Merrimack. The construction of the Virginia begins in July 1861 and is launched in mid February 1862, and enters its first battle on the 8th of March in Hampton roads with the Union putting up resitance. However Virginia is able to knock out 3 transport ships and USS Congress before leaving. The following day The virginia re-enters Hampton roads, this time with USS Monitor defending the port, and after 4 hours the battle ends in a draw, with Virginia leaving the port as the tide was moving out. The vessel would be suttled on the 11th of May, as it attempted to make it’s way up the james river to Richmond, however the vessels draght was too deep and with Gosport Navy yard in flames, the vessel had no where to dock.
