More model informationCullingsburgh broch & church, Bressay, Shetland Isles, Scotland.
Situated on a promontory at Cullingsburgh are the remains of an Iron Age Broch repesented by a stony turf covered mound. Many of the stones have been robbed from the broch to build the nearby medieval church and other structures. Although now T-shaped the church used to be the only known cruciform shaped church in the Shetland Isles. In the 19th century, a pictish cross-slab known as the ‘Bressay Stone’ was found near the church. The modern cemetery wall encloses part of the broch mound. Surface finds from the broch include hammer stones and whetstones.
