AI-assisted reconstruction of a traditional Vietnamese theatre mask photographed during a visit to Vietnam.

Generated from a single reference photograph as part of an ongoing series exploring the transformation of photography into reusable three-dimensional assets. While the original object features strong graphic patterns and high-contrast painted details that present challenges for image-to-3D workflows, the resulting model successfully captures the distinctive silhouette, colour palette, and expressive character of the mask.

This study highlights both the strengths and limitations of current AI-assisted reconstruction techniques. Much of the mask’s identity is preserved through its painted surface design, while some sculptural details have been simplified or inferred during the modelling process.
