The Cuvier’s beaked whale (Ziphius cavirostris) is the most widely distributed of all beaked whales in the family Ziphiidae. It has a cosmopolitan distribution in deep, offshore waters from the tropics to the cool, temperate seas. Males and females have about the same size (males range from 5.8 to 6.9 metres and female from 5.8 to 7 metres) weighing about 2 to 3.5 tons.
