More model informationBeim gegen 5000 Jahre alten Objekt handelt es sich um ein sogenanntes Rollsiegel aus Stein. Mit diesen wurden unter anderem Gefässverschlüsse aus Ton gesiegelt. Roll- und andere Siegel stellen einen der Sammlungsschwerpunkte des BIBEL+ORIENT Museums dar. http://www.bible-orient-museum.ch/
Das Siegel ist in der Mitte gebrochen. Lange dünne Steinobjekte, die innen hohl sind und aussen Kerben aufweisen, brechen leicht. Ein kaputtes Siegel wird wertlos und weggeworfen und nach tausenden von Jahren durch Archäologen wieder gefunden.
Um die Darstellung auf einem Rollsiegel erkennen zu können, werden Abrollungen gemacht, die das schnelle Sehen der Dekoration ermöglichen.
Solche und ähnliche Rosetten waren als Dekoration um 3000 v. Chr. vor allem in der Stadt Sousa im heutigen Iran sehr beliebt, woher das Siegel ursprünglich auch stammen dürfte.
