Why do remote controls need to be monolithic slabs?
Many of the actions we take with remote control type devices are binary: on/off, volume up/down, reverse/forward. Instead of relying on two buttons or a confusing single button, why not turn the entire control into a gigantic knob?
Each segment is a knob for an individual function (from the top: on/off, volume down/up, scrub back/forward). The knobs snap back into the center/dead position when the user releases after twisting. This offers a much more satisfying, tactile feedback than a plastic-y button press.
By placing the thumb stick on the top of the cylinder, we have a far more ergonomic placement. The hand can firmly grip the cylinder which offers the thumb a more natural position with lots of leverage.
