Cylinder Scroll 3D Model
Mesopotamian stone cylinder seal 04-09-3588 (with modern impression on blue polymer clay). The exterior surfaces of cylinder seals were engraved with figures and sometimes cuneiform text. When rolled over moist clay, these engravings left an impression that identified the owner of the seal. Thus cylinder seal impressions (or “sealings”) were used as a form of signature on clay tablets, bullae, and other objects. Cylinder seals were in use between 3500 BC and 300 BC. They can sometimes be dated stylistically as the popularity of various designs changed through time.
